How often do I need to come in for treatments?

Because every body is unique, your practitioner will tailor your treatment plan specifically for you. Generally, frequency and length of treatments will depend on what condition is being treated, how severe it is, and how long the period of relief lasts after each treatment.

What should I expect when I come in?

During acupuncture treatment needles are placed at various depths in the body, ranging from a fraction of an inch to two inches, so it is important to wear loose-fitting clothing as you will have to partially disrobe in order to receive acupuncture. Do not drink alcohol or coffee before treatment as it may impair your sense of awareness and increase your heart rate which is counterproductive to acupuncture. When treating you, Dr. D will use different combinations of points and different needling techniques to help stimulate new sources of healing as your response to treatment is observed. After treatment, you may feel overly relaxed, so it is advised that you do not drive. Do not to overextend yourself after acupuncture treatment, no matter how good you feel, take it easy for a few days after and continue taking your prescribed medications.

How will I feel after treatment?

toggle faq

Patients experience a range of emotions and sensations after undergoing acupuncture or other alternative healing treatments. These may range from deep relaxation, drowsiness, or even a rush of energy.

Depending on each patient’s condition, pain relief may be felt immediately after a treatment, or several hours afterwards. Because these treatments greatly affect both mind and body, it’s best not to schedule anything immediately following a treatment. Give yourself time to rest, adjust, and enjoy the benefits.

Why can't I just come one time and be "healed"?

toggle faq

Patient compliance is important when using acupuncture to treat conditions such as weight loss, back pain, allergies, and hyperhidrosis because less than ideal results may arise from delaying the subsequent treatments by such a long interval, and future acupuncture sessions may be unfavorably affected by the delay.

Delayed administration of subsequent acupuncture treatments may also lead to a lengthy course of treatment which will be more costly than a short-term set of consecutive treatments. It is important that patients schedule appointments in a timely manner and avoid cancellations as much as possible. In order to enjoy the synergistic effect of acupuncture in treating acute conditions, depending on the severity, we may initially plan for more visits to help bring you expedite relief, and then simply slow down your treatment regimen as you become well.
